The respiratory system is made up of: the lungs, nostrils, nasal cavity, sinuses (in skull), trachea, bronchi, larynx and pharynx. Similar to humans cats have right and left lungs, which are composed of separate lobes. The most obvious function of the respiratory system is the replacement of carbon dioxide with oxygen. The second function is unique to cats due to their inability to cool down by the production of sweat, they must breath harder to cool down. By panting they release warm air for cool air.
